PHX artists at Sydney Biennale
This month some of the best art from AZ will be in Australia. Phoenix-based writer and performer Tania Katan blogs the story at oursydneybiennale.hearsight.com.
From her first post today-
What is the beauty of distance when you’re flying 15 hours from Phoenix, Arizona to Sydney, Australia to present your work in one of the largest art exhibitions in the world? I’ve been lucky enough to tag along with artist Angela Ellsworth who will answer that question, and a few more. Her installation, “Seer Bonnets: A Continuing Offense” is exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Art, as part of the 17th Biennale of Sydney and her performance: “Meanwhile, back at the ranch” will also be presented as part of the Biennale. Ellsworth, along with two other artists from the Lisa Sette Gallery in Scottsdale, Arizona, Claudio Dicochea and Enrique Chagoya, make up part of the 166 artists from around the world who have been invited to engage in an international dialogue about art, beauty and distance.
This blog will act as a sort of, VH1: Behind The Music, but with a positive spin. Instead of documenting the lives of rock stars as they spiral out of control, into drugs, skimming past prostitution and rehab, jogging towards spirituality and ultimately flying towards redemption, I’m just going to document the highlights of being an artist invited to be on the international stage. Oh, don’t worry, you’ll get plenty of behind the scenes glimpses of what it’s like to wake up next to an art-star after a night of drinking free cocktails; how it feels to rub elbows with hot curators from around the world; and who wears what to the Lounge Suit party.
