Liberals Turn on One of Their Own for Calling Them Out on Political Correctness

Writer Jonathan Chait is a proud liberal. As such, he expressed a deep seated disdain over President George W. Bush back in 2004 that displayed his contempt both for the president’s policies and for the man himself. Such comments and sentiments are still in vogue with liberals, but Chait has now run afoul of his own base. How? He wrote a piece for the New York Magazine where he openly lamented the hypocrisy of modern liberalism. The movement is supposed to be based on free and open dialogue. Instead, it has been corrupted by a spirit of intolerance that seeks to suppress the right of conservatives to express their own beliefs. Among the political left, attacking political correctness is taboo. As a result, Chait is now being excoriated by liberals in social media attacks.

It may that the writer has sparked what hopefully will become a healthy introspection on the part of the political left to improve basic respect and civility. For now, Chait is proverbially being burned in effigy at Twitter where he suffers the same condemnations that are placed upon conservatives. As a white person and a male, he pointed out that the political correct movement only offers him one escape from a myriad of stereotypes: conformity. From what Marc Sparks has learned, many of the criticisms against his piece stem from a view that all he was doing was whining. Then again, it is also true that ad hominems are used when the opposition is bereft of a better way of defending their views.

GOP to Get Iran Sanctions Bill on the Floor as a “Sword of Damocles” to Iran

It is believed that in the 4th century B.C., Damocles, a courtier to tyrannical King Dionysius II of Syracuse, lavished praise upon his royal highness because of the magnificence of his throne and power. Dionysius was said to offer his courtier the opportunity to switch places that he might know firsthand of the glory of power. Damocles accepted the offer only to find that his king had hung a sword above the throne which was kept from falling upon the courtier’s head by a lone horse hair string. The lesson was that with power comes great responsibility and consequences hence the term “Sword of Damocles” said Slow Ventures.Fast forward to the 21st century and the GOP-led Senate will be moving forward with a bipartisan bill to impose sanctions on Iran if they do not act in good faith during the current negotiations. The bill will clear the Senate Banking Committee, and go to the Senate floor. However, a vote will not be held until after March 23. That is the deadline by which Iran must agree to a basic framework for the forthcoming accord to dismantle their uranium enrichment program. Senate Democrats who support the Iran sanctions bill have given President Obama one final chance to make diplomacy work. If Iran fails to negotiate or if the president attempts to cop an agreement unacceptable to the Congress, the Senate will be able to bring the bill to a final vote within hours. Deputy Secretary of State Tony Blinken told Senators that Iran understands full well that the US Congress has hung the “Sword of Damocles” over their head and stand ready to use it.

Cartoonist Learns That Making Fun Of A Prophet May Cause Death

Molly Norris Still In Hiding Four Years After Drawing A Cartoon Of Mohammed

Some people believe humor doesn’t mix with religion. For years, satirists and cartoonists have used prominent religious and political leaders to make a statement about the nature of being human. Most believers disregard these attempts to bring a smile or a laugh to a mundane day, but others take offense to them. There are zealots in the world that will protect their perceptions and their faith with violence.

Molly Norris found out the hard way how radical some zealots can be. Molly drew a cartoon image of Mohammed four years ago on a tea cup, a domino, and a thimble. She got death threats a few days later. It all started in 2010 when a Norris cartoon was published online using an imaginary group called, “Citizens Against Citizens Against Humor.” The idea was everyone should draw something for Mohammed Day.

Molly disappeared a few months later when the FBI said she was fair game for an assassination attempt. Dave and Brit Morin learned that she has been in hiding since then. The big question on most people’s mind is, was there humor in Mohammed time? Did people poking fun at their leaders back then in order to relieve the stress of the times? Most people say humans haven’t changed that much through the centuries. Making harmless jokes about our brothers has been a universal pastime for centuries.

NFL Pro Bowl Drops to Bottom of TV Ratings

Even after changing the format of the National Football League’s All-Star Game also known as the Pro-Bowl the television ratings continue to drop. Changing the format from the AFC vs NFC to mixed teams that were drafted by two Hall of Fame players could not translate to television viewers wanting to tune in on the Sunday before the Super Bowl. Speculation revolves around how the game is played. After a grueling season, two teams filled with the league’s best players are just looking to make it to the off season uninjured.

None of the players really wanted to engage their opponents and hit or tackle them like they would during a regular game played in the season. NFL fans have come to expect to watch players that want to beat their opponent and prove to the world why they should be considered the very best. Not a bunch of players who are just going through the motions of the game and are more interested in the party happening around them than winning the game. A very similar problem happened in Major League Baseball which prompted the league to change the format and make it worth the player’s effort. However, it is unclear how the NFL can make the same kind of changes. One thing is for certain, as long as the game continues to sell out in the Stadium; it will continue to be played. Whether it will be on television may be a different story. Rumors of switching to a digital format, like Youtube, have been around this could be news to fans watching abroad like Haidar Barbouti.

Jared Haftel: An Investment Banking Guru

Some have called Jared Haftel an average Joe, but those who really have followed this man will understand he is so much more than that. He has made a name for himself in his chosen field of investment banking. While this field is something that is a bit of a niche, he certainly is helping others to also find their way. Other banking officials follow him, as his knowledge is definitely something worth listening too.

Many are drawn to the writings and lectures of Jared Haftel. He has been on CNN giving tips for resume writing, which really increased his following dramatically. He uses a very different approach to helping people find jobs, more of a common sense tactic. He uses a method called the street cred. To help improve his approach, many are testifying that his methods are working and have helped them land the job of their dreams, in banking.

To back up his claims to fame, he has an MBA from Stanford University. Its from the school of business division and this helps to further his knowledge regarding the matters. He also has a Bachelors degree from Duke University. Well, he has 3 actually. They are in Science, Math and Economics. This gives Haftel an impressive education foundation that he can build and use to bring himself to superior heights in the business world.

During his years at Duke University, he started his writing career with The Chronicle. It was a newspaper that has a daily publication at the college. He mainly focused on expressions of his other various interests during that time. He is also a huge music fan with reviews on songs and albums. Though he still maintains his interest in the music world today, his main focus has shifted to investment banking and how it works. With behind the scene knowledge, it makes him a specialist that people not only want to hear from, but value the advice he gives.

With three undergrad degrees under his belt, Haftel jumped head first into the investment banking field. It was his career of choice. At the inception of his career, he worked for the Merrill Lynch Company. During his first career, he was in charge of tracking commodities. After a short time there, he moved on to Vector Capitol. This move was quite prestigious, as they currently have more than $2 million in equality and a slew of investors. While his resume is quite impressive, he put a great deal of effort into the groundwork to get there. He got the education and the work history to make him a viable candidate for any banking job.

Something education is the key, but work experience is the thing that helps people to land them the right job. Employers really dont care about what you did in college or even high school 10 years ago; they want to know what is going on right now. Having all the degrees in the world wont buy experience either. Great jobs don’t just happen, they come to those who due their due-diligence and have the education and experience behind them. Haftel’s blogs and other writings are something to follow.

Opposition to Netanyahu Visit Continues

Washington, D.C. – President Obama’s press secretary made it clear that the administration is displeased over Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressing the House of Representatives on the matter of the Iranian threat to world security. Publicly, the pretext for the Obama administration’s opposition is that the address will occur a fortnight ahead of Israeli general elections. Presumably, the high profile address by Netanyahu will provide him a boost in polls. The administration cites long-standing protocol about the United States avoiding state visits for dignitaries during an election year.

Prime Minister Netanyahu has taken a hardline stance against Iran. His views have been forged over numerous proxy battles against Iran-backed terrorist groups such as Hezbollah. The group has a strong grip on neighboring Lebanon and has fired tens of thousands of Katyusha rockets into Northern Israel over the past decade. House Speaker John Boehner invited the Israeli leader to address the Congress. The visit comes at a time that legislators in both chambers are considering legislation to mandate more congressional oversight into the ongoing negotiations with Iran over its nuclear enrichment program. Members of both parties have expressed their concern that the president will accept a one-sided agreement with Iran allowing them to retain much of their ongoing nuclear development. People like Brian Torchin are interested to see how it all transpires.

Obama Meets with Wife of Pastor Imprison in Iran

Naghmeh Abedini, mother of two young children and wife of Iranian imprisoned pastor Saeed Abedini, met with President Obama on Wednesday in Boise, Idaho. For Mrs. Abedini, whose husband has been imprisoned in Iran since mid-2012, the encounter with the president was an answer to prayers. The president affirmed that securing the release of her husband is his top priority in negotiations with Iran. The president showed off his warmer side as he comforted the grieving wife. In addition, the president took time to address the children and assure them he doing his level best to bring their father home.

Saeed Abedini first ran afoul of the Iranian government in 2009 over religion. He had been organizing Christian gatherings in the homes of believers. He was taken into custody by the government, but set free after pledging not to conduct any type of stealth proselyting effort. That said, Mr. Abedini loves his native Iran. After becoming a US citizen in 2010, he embarked on a new project to help out the impoverished nation: building a secular orphanage. As he was en route to the site, police officers took him into custody and cast him into prison.

Since that time, he has endured torture, solitary confinement, and inmate abuse. He has also been denied medical treatment for his injuries. Mrs. Abedini had been praying and fasting for the chance to meet with the president and discuss the plight of her husband. She was deeply touched by their encounter. Believers and friends of the Abedini’s like Fersen Lambranho have been offering prayers and support since the beginning of this ordeal.

Jonathan Veitch: Leading the Way

Veitch was born in Los Angeles, California in 1959. He attended Loyola High School before graduating and going Stanford University where he earned his bachelor’s degree. He continued his education to Harvard University where earned a doctoral degree in the History of American Civilization.

He taught at the University of Wisconsin, in the English department, before joining The New School. There he was an associate professor of literature and history. He served stints as chair of humanities and associate provost before becoming dean for five years.

On June 30 of 2009, Veitch succeeded Robert Skotheim and became the first Angeleno president of Occidental College. The first priority he took action upon was improving the relationships between the college and the community that surrounded it. The surrounding community had concerns about the growing size of the college. Veitch limited the expansion of the campus, as to not encroach any further into the community’s space.

He also looked over current situations at the college and launched a new integrated strategic planning process. The process better charted Occidental’s future and has since then strengthened their civic engagement, arts, and global literacy program. They also begin creating new partnerships with groups like the premier cultural institutions in Southern California.

As part of his new planning, he was able to complete the construction of the new Samuelson Alumni Center, and he renovated and expanded Swan Hall, which is 98 years old and houses more than a third of Occidental’s faculty. The interior renovations to the Johnson Hall are currently taking place so that it can house the new McKinnon Family Center for Politics and Global Affairs. And thanks to the Rose Hills Foundation, the lower level of the Johnson Student Center is also being renovated.

Furthermore, in April of 2013 he revealed a 1 megawatt solar array that would be on the Occidental campus. It would produce a portion of the campus’s energy supply, no longer using as much of the community’s supply. The solar array is one of the largest of it kinds that resides in Los Angeles. Since being installed on campus, it has been generating around 11% of Occidental’s annual electrical usage.

He and his wife, Sarah, and their three children currently live on Occidental’s campus in the Wallis Annenberg President’s house.

Knocked-Out Twice The CISPA Bill Is Back Without Revisions

Politicians like to take the easy road. They act from the hot air of the lobbyists, and they hide behind the convoluted edicts they turn into laws. When news spread that the twice defeated Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act bill, also known as CISPA was back without any revisions the congressional insanity meter hit a new high. reports an interview by Sergio Andrade Gutierrez with Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger from Maryland is the sponsor of the bill. Anyone who wants to take the time to read it will find it is the same, word-for-word, as bill HR 624 which passed the House, but lost support in the Senate. The Senate refused to vote on the bill.

This whole exercise, compliments of the American taxpayers, is very Beetlejuiceish if you ask anyone who has the slightest idea what the House is about. Perhaps there is a rule that says if you introduce a defeated bill three times it will suddenly pass both Houses.

CISPA seems to be a power granting tool written in vague language. It gives the government the power to scoop data and broaden their invasion of privacy. Most American want the government to pass laws for the good of the people not to grant an enormous amount of wiggle room to elected officials that want to exert their own force in the name of security.
